Walk in the footsteps of one of the area’s most famous Victorians. Isaac Holden was born near Ninebanks, later working as a grocer in Allendale and selling his tea door-to-door around the North Pennines. His concern for the lives of poor people led him to raise huge amounts of money for health and welfare projects. This walk starts at one of his most high-profile gifts to the community – a hearse house. The 4.1 mile (6.5 km) route then follows Isaac’s Tea Trail across fields with wonderful views and through woodland. Farm tracks or pasture underfoot. Some steep but short hills, several stiles.
Meet at the Elk’s Head, Whitfield. Parking available. There will be a minibus to the start of the walk at Ninebanks, and refreshments available at the Elk’s Head at the end of the walk.
