At nearly a mile long, the Dyke valley is the longest, deepest and widest 'dry valley' in the UK. Legend has it that the Devil dug this chasm to drown the parishioners of the Weald. On the other hand, scientists believe it was formed naturally just over 10,000 years ago in the last ice age.
The landscape history of this National Trust site is amazing - go down to the valley floor and you can almost see the mammoths on the skyline!
There is good wheelchair access around the hilltop and a fully accessible trail for wheelchairs and bikes back into Brighton. Free parking at Summer Down Road; pay & display parking at Devil's Dyke. Toilets and Pub/café.
