50 Steps - Walking and Dancing the Pennine Way

9th July 2015

A publicly funded group project with 3 dancers, a musician and a video artist, touring to 5 towns and villages along the Pennine Way

This mixed art-form performance pays tribute to the Pennine Way in its 50th anniversary year. The group will walk a local section of the route during the day, and improvise a response the same evening in a process of immediate re-imagining. The dancers will re-live, reflect and interpret their shared experiences of the walk, accompanied by a live musical soundscape and video clips live-mixed to stimulate a mutual exchange between the 5 collaborators, each answering and challenging the others throughout the 30-40 minute performance.

The performances will be preceded by a short introduction to the the geology and landscape of the Pennines, with research by William Varley of West Yorkshire Geology Trust.
