England Coast Path: Welcome to Tarleton Lock

You are now standing on the England Coast Path National Trail, a 2,700-mile walking route opening in stages. This is the first section to open between Lancashire and Merseyside, running from Tarleton Lock to Liverpool’s Mersey Ferry. It opened in 2023.

Where does the Coast Path go from here?

For now, the England Coast Path starts (or ends) here. There is no public right of way south from here, but you can join Hesketh Lane through Tarleton via Sutton Avenue.

What can I do on the England Coast Path here?

Walk (and use all-terrain wheelchairs where terrain and infrastructure allow).

Respect those who live here – don’t stray into private gardens.

Keep dogs under close control and bag and bin their poo.

Follow instructions on signage.

Watch birds and wildlife – but keep your distance.

What is a National Trail?

National Trails are long distance footpaths, managed by Natural England and local Trail Partnerships. Visit www.nationaltrail.co.uk. Look for the acorn logo!
