Explore

Whilst you’re here… Explore beautiful Northumberland

Northumberland is renowned for its unspoiled beauty spots, breath-taking scenery and of course, world class heritage sights that never fail to capture historic Britain.

With a whole host of landmarks, attractions and heritage sites to explore and discover, it’s no surprise that thousands of people visit Northumberland every single year. Popular with family, friends and couples alike, there really is not enough hours in the day to discover what this stunning area has to offer. The good news is, you’ll have to come and visit us again!

From picturesque river walks, cycle trails and outstanding areas of natural beauty to explore  through to a number of world famous heritage attractions, leisure facilities and dynamic English countryside to visit, you’ll definitely not be short on things to do and see with the whole family.

Home to the infamous John Martin Trail, a celebration of the popular Victorian artist, the area lends itself perfectly to sports and outdoor enthusiasts. Another one of the area’s popular attractions includes Hadrian’s Wall – spanning 73 miles, the historic wall takes in some of the area’s most spectacular coast routes, dramatic landscapes and countryside! It really will give you a first hand insight into Roman life and the epic history of this world heritage site.

Oh and if that wasn’t enough to tempt you to stay with us. Our Railways Hotel & Bistro is also only 4 miles from Northumberland National Park, 2 miles from the North Pennines Area, 5 miles from Housteads Roman Fort. Housesteads Roman Fort takes you back to the Roman Empire. The Fort is owned by National Trust but maintained by English Heritage.

And if you’re looking to enjoy a break of contrast and escape the tranquil nature of the countryside for a little while, Newcastle/Gateshead is only a 30 minute drive away! Here you will be able to soak up the vibrant and exciting nature of city living, whilst taking in the sights and sounds of “Geordie land.” From visiting the iconic Angel of the North to taking a stroll across the Millienium Bridge, you’ll quickly discover that the area is a hive of culture, history and of course, it’s night life will certainly live up to expectation.

Haydon Bridge

Steeped in history, Haydon Bridge is the perfect place to enjoy a tranquil holiday in a quiet rural village location.

Bursting with endless history, charm and character, it is thought that the first part of the town’s name has Saxon origins and may have meant “valley where hay is made.” The second part of the name refers to the bridge.

Today, the bridge remains one of the area’s most significant landmarks, shaping and defining the area’s cultural landscape. Hayden Bridge is the perfect place to experience rural living in a spectacular setting.
