Inaugural Roly's Run held in the Meon Valley, hampshire, in memory of a lost friend and ultra-runner Rich (aka Roly) (run4rich.co.uk).
Race distance (20 or 15.5)/40 mile options):
21.5 mile (712m ascent) or 15.5 mile (463m ascent) - £25 (£27 if unattached) (*) see note below
40 mile (1400m ascent) - £45 (£47 if unattached)
Course Description:
Both the 20/40 mile courses will take a clockwise loop starting at Swanmore, taking in Beacon Hill, and Winchester Hill. From the car park at Winchester Hill, 40 mile runners will then continue on an out and back spur to QE Country Park following the South Downs Way, while 20 mile runners will head back to the old railway line back to Swanmore via Droxford. A fine challenge for 'ultra-noobs' and veterans alike!
The finish will be at the village hall where a hot drink and food will await you!
There will be checkpoints throughout.
The course is 80% trail, has some amount of climbing and can be tricky underfoot in places, particularly in wet weather or after persistent rain. (e.g. loose stones, tree roots, slippery descents on chalky paths).
Courses will be marked with arrows/tape/flour as needed and a .gpx file with the full course will be available prior to the race.
Race HQ: Swanmore Village Hall, New Road, Swanmore, Hampshire, SO32 2PF.
(*) Walkers welcome in the 20 mile event. Those entering the '20' mile event have the option to skip the out and back section to Winchester Hill, making it ~15.5 miles with 463m of ascent. We will ask you which at registration on the day. We don't recommend missing out on Winchester hill though, nice views :)
Please note that if there is limited interest in the 40 we may choose to amend the 40 mile route to 2 laps of the 20 mile course.
Run will be held under UKA rules. Unfortunately, no dogs may join competitors on the route. Runners must be over 18 years of age to run the 20 mile event and over 20 years of age to run the 40 mile event.
