London has many rivers but they are often hidden under centuries of development. Rivers like the Effra have left their mark on the city and still form an important part of our subterranean world today.
This is a 10 mile linear walk from Crystal Palace to Vauxhall with stops along the route to discuss the history, nature and culture all around.
Join me as I, accompanied by David Fathers's excellent book London's Hidden Rivers, act as your guide tracing the line of the River Effra as it winds its way under our feet through Crystal Palace, Dulwich, Herne Hill and Brixton to its outflow in the Thames at Vauxhall.
We'll stop for lunch at Brockwell Park about 1.30 pm and arrive at Vauxhall about 5 pm where those who fancy it can join me for a drink or two in the Riverside pub.
This is a FREE event and forms part of the London National Park City Festival Week.
