A day workshop exploring the nature, history and myths of The Ridgeway and developing your observation and creative skills with artist Jo Beal and Ridgeway Officer Sarah Wright. You will create a journal of your experiences and memories to take away as a souvenir from the day.

Drawing on years of experience, Jo will guide you through an enjoyable day spent indoors and outdoors on a short stroll on the Trail. There will be the unique opportunity to handle archaeological artefacts and hear stories linked to historic places along The Ridgeway including the legend of the blacksmith 'Wayland'. The venue of the historic town of Watlington has been chosen as a source of inspiration for many reasons, including the famous Viking hoard known as the Watlington Hoard!

All levels of experience welcome including no experience. This workshop for a group of up to 12 people starts at 10.30am on Saturday 17th September 2022 and finishes at 4.30pm.

Booking in advance essential - email ridgeway@oxfordshire.gov.uk. Please bring basic materials - see the equipment list. We provide drinks and biscuits whilst you bring a packed lunch or buy lunch from Watlington's cafes and shops.

Watlington is a historic town in South Oxfordshire just 2.8 miles off Junction 6 of the M40. The postcode for the nearest car park on Hill Road is OX49 5AD. If the Hill Road car park is busy, there is another free car park approximately 7 minutes walk away at the sports ground which is signposted off the B4009 (OX49 5BZ). If you don't mind a walk up the hill, there is a pay-and-display National Trust car park for Watlington Hill (postcode OX49 5HS, free to National Trust members, £3 per day for non-members).

£6 will be donated from the £56 ticket price to The Ridgeway and Oxfordshire Museum Services to assist their work.

Accessibility information: The town hall is accessed via a stairway which has a stair lift. There is a toilet adjacent to the hall. Please contact us for more details.
