St Nicholas, Compton is unique in England with its double sanctuary.  It is 10th Century, Grade 1 listed building

Situated at the top of a winding cobbled path, on arrival one is instantly enraptured by the beauty of this small unique and ancient building. Once inside you cannot help but be aware of the important part this church has played in the lives of many for almost a thousand years, including those walking the Pilgrim's Way between Winchester and Canterbury cathedrals.

Once described as 'The most interesting church in the county' by H Alderman - The Charm of Old  Surrey and 'Surrey's flagship Norman Church' by Simon Jenkins - England's Thousand Best Churches

The tower and chancel pre-date 1066, there also exists Pre 1150 Norman 'graffiti'. In 1929 a square cell was discovered, thought to have been the home to anchorites
