Huge area of open, steep hillside downland known for a diversity of chalkland flowers and butterflies which is publicly accessible as Open Access Land. The striking landform of the Devil's Punchbowl has inspired local legends and has an interesting part to play in the history of mapping.

Note that there can be shooting parties in the area during the pheasant shooting season from 1st October to 1st February every year. Rest assured that shoots have to ensure public safety but be prepared for loud noises etc.

Discover more about this area of downland through the Ridgeway Top 50 Story of Chalk, Chalk Flowers, Butterflies and Trigs.
