Walk for Parkinson's - Oxford

Sun, 10/09/2017 - 10:00

Walking event

Join Parkinson’s UK on Sunday 10 September 2017 for our seventh sponsored Walk for Parkinson’s - Oxford.  This year we have three exciting new routes, all giving you the opportunity to see some of Oxford’s beautiful, historic buildings as well as its wonderful green spaces.  With a walk to suit everyone, choose from 1.5 miles, 4.5 miles or 8 miles.  Experience the Radcliffe Camera in its full glory, marvel in the wonderful architecture of the Bodleian Library and the Sheldonian Theatre, spot hidden Colleges, walk under the famous Bridge of Sighs and stroll across the Oxford University Parks.  Those on the 8 mile route will walk along the Oxford Canal before walking along a section of the Thames Path to reach the City Centre.

The sponsorship raised from the Walk for Parkinson’s – Oxford will go towards funding the research project ‘Investigating the Waste Disposal System in Parkinson’s’, taking place in the Pharmacology Department at the University of Oxford.  This research project will be looking at fatty molecules called lipids, which play an important role in keeping the brain working properly, to try to identify what type of lipids are involved in Parkinson’s.
