The annual Swan Upping event is a colourful event. Swan Upping, the annual census of the swan population on the River Thames, will take place between 17th – 21st July 2017.The Royal Swan Uppers, who wear the scarlet uniform of Her Majesty The Queen, travel in traditional rowing skiffs together with Swan Uppers from the Vintners’ and Dyers’ livery companies over 5 days. Swan Upping takes place on the Thames between Sunbury and Abingdon, between 17 and 21 July and plays an important role in the conservation of the mute swan.
