Bolberry Down in Devon is voted Top Dog Walk in the West

14th May 2014

Bolberry Down in South Devon, managed by the National Trust, has long been a favourite among dog walkers, with its easily accessible network of paths, rare coastal grassland and wild flowers and numerous viewpoints and benches to sit and admire the views along the coast. Now walkers of the South West Coast Path have voted with their feet – and proclaimed it the best dog walk in the West, beating off competition from walks all along the 630-mile stretch of the famous national trail.

The winning voter, Tracy James, from the Wirral, says: “This particular coast path walk offers a great opportunity to let my beagle Indy off the lead at Soar Mill Cove to have a good scamper on the sand and a splash in the sea. The views are incredible too – on a clear day you can see as far as Cornwall! ”

The National Trust care for this stretch of coast and graze sheep in the area to maintain the important coastal grassland. Dogs should therefore be kept on leads or under close control. However, the cove is dog friendly at all times.

Tracy wins a holiday at one of 800 dog-friendly cottages in the region worth £400.
