SDW Busy with events

14th July 2016

This time of year is busy with events. These events allow hundreds of people to enjoy and challenge themselves on the South Downs and many help to maintain the trail through donations from event fees. The last few weeks have seen 2:09 Event' regular South Downs Marathon, Relays and half marathon events as well as the classic Wiggle South Downs Epic mountain bike ride and the all new Race to the King running / walking event by Threshold Sports.

If you love a challenge, why not join an event. Many are regular annual events so if you've missed this years, get in training now for next year. Alternatively if you want the peace and solitude of the South Downs look at our events calendar on our "Be Inspired" page. Here you can see all the events that have been organised along the SDW. So join them or avoid them, it's up to you, but do take a look at what's happening.

This coming weekend sees one of the big events. The British Heart Foundation' SDW bike ride. The full 100 miles in a day (a shorter distance is also available) will be run again this Saturday (July 16th). Also this weekend at midnight intrepid walkers will set off from Devil's Dyke heading for Beachy Head in aid of Action Medical Research. Good luck to all participants.

The following weekend 22nd / 23rd will see the biggest event of the summer, the ledgendary Oxfam / Gurkha Welfare Trust Trailwalker event. Teams of 4 people aim to walk 100km in under 30 hours. The Gurkha' will complete the 100km in under 10 hours!! Superhuman!

If you're not taking part why not head up to the SDW to give your moral support and donate to the worthy causes.
