Who manages The Ridgeway?

On a day-to-day basis, a small team based in Oxford carries out practical maintenance and improvements on The Ridgeway and provides visitor information. Sarah Wright is the Ridgeway Officer leading this team. The team are supported by numerous volunteers and sometimes contractors are commissioned to do projects, including mowing long sections of verge. Landowners play their part in maintaining access along rights of way.
The Ridgeway Partnership provides resources and guides work on The Ridgeway and surrounding corridor. The Partnership endeavours to represent all interests along the length of the Trail and pool resources. The highway authorities are a key group – Wiltshire County Council, Swindon Borough Council, West Berkshire Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Buckinghamshire County Council and Hertfordshire County Council. There is also representation by the Ramblers, Country Landowners Association, Chiltern Society, Friends of the Ridgeway, Chilterns Conservation Board, North Wessex Downs AONB, British Horse Society, Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site, Natural England and others.
Further information is available from the Ridgeway Officer, including a leaflet about The Ridgeway Partnership.
