Poppy fields on The Ridgeway

Lapierre White Roads Classic

09 Jul 2019

Cycling event

The Lapierre White Roads Classic is an annual 115km-long cycle sportive which takes in 15km of white gravel and chalk roads on and around The Ridgeway in Oxfordshire. It is inspired by what is possibly the most beautiful professional bike race in the world: the Italian one-day Classic known as the 'Strade Bianche'. The Lapierre White Roads Classic, which is sanctioned and insured by British Cycling, will take place on the 2nd Sunday in July each year, starting and finishing in Goring-on-Thames. There are nine sectors of white gravel and chalk roads ranging from 1300m to 3300m in length. The Ridgeway is the oldest road in Britain, dating back at least 5000 years. It sits atop the spectacular chalk downland of the North Wessex Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. All of the roads used on the route are relatively traffic-free, with some of the of the White Road sectors being closed to all traffic. Full details, maps and photos can be found at cycleclassics.co.uk together with details on how to enter online.
