The Red Kite is a magnificent bird  which was re-introduced to the Chilterns 25 years ago and can now be spotted over much of the area.  It has a distinctive forked tail and is predominantly chestnut red with white patches under the wings and a pale grey head. With a wingspan of nearly two metres (about five-and-a-half-feet) the Red Kite can stay in the air for many hours with hardly a beat of its wings. Find out more about kites and visit
