New and Improved path on Penyghent

21st December 2018

Yorkshire Dales National Park Rangers put their trail building skills to good use on a busy section of the Pennine Way on Penyghent.  An ugly section of boardwalk has been replaced by a ‘floating’ aggregate path using stone quarried locally.  The boardwalk has been removed and the moorland vegetation relandscaped and reinstated.  The new path, constructed on a better line to reduce the visual impact, is blending successfully back into the landscape and the vegetation has recovered.  It is almost impossible to see the line of the old boardwalk.  The new path looks better, is safer and easier to use and should require less maintenance.  The local farmer even recycled the timber from the boardwalk.
