Carriage House Inn, Marsden

19th March 2019

The Carriage House Inn on Manchester Road, Standedge has for many years offered accomodation including camping for Pennine Way walkers. It was ideally situated at the end of the second days itinerary for many - Crowden to Standedge

I had a number of reports from Pennine Way users that the Carriage House, which was listed on the interactive map that helps walkers plan their journey, was closed .

I have discovered that the pub has changed hands and will in future be marketed as a party venue which means that it is unlikely to be an ideal option for tired walkers looking for a good nights sleep!  Muddy boots, fleece and wet weather gear may not be part of the dress code.

It is a little sad to lose an option that has long been associated with the National Trail but there are some good accomodation options in Marsden and Diggle a short distance from the trail, and some may offer a pick up service.  Unfortunately we do not currently have a campsite listed nearby.
