Spirit of Kinder Day

22 Apr 2017

General event

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the acquisition of Kinder Scout by the National Trust and the 85th anniversary of the famous mass trespass on Kinder. The annual Spirit of Kinder day aims to commemorate the past but also to look forward to current and future challenges to the environment and provision of access to the countryside.

This year's event will be looking at the outstanding re-wetting and re-wilding work which the National Trust has done on Kinder Scout since 1982.

Master of ceremonies is Rony Robinson of BBC Radio Sheffield. Speakers include:

  • Dame Helen Ghosh, Director General of the National Trust
  • Vanessa Griffiths, Chief Executive of The Ramblers
  • Stephen Trotter, Director of the Wildlife Trusts, England
  • Jon Stewart, General Manager of the National Trust in the Peak District

Sheffield folk singer Sally Goldsmith will lead the traditional singing of The Manchester Rambler, along with her own songs.

Refreshments will be provided by Edale WI.

Other events during the weekend include a number of guided walks led by the National Trust and the National Park.
