Temporary closure at Tintwistle

9th March 2016

UPDATE: The closure is still in place but the pegasus crossing on the A628 is back in operation which makes a diversion possible. More details will be added to the map shortly.

The Pennine Bridleway and the link route from Torside Reservoir will be closed to horse riders until July 2016 at the crossing of the A628 at Tintwistle to allow repair works to take place to the retaining wall. Other users will still be able to pass, but will be directed through the work site by on-site staff. There may be a short wait. There is no suitable diversion for horse riders to avoid the closure. The bridleway is closed along the restricted byway section from Tintwistle east towards Bottoms Reservoir.

If you plan to ride the Pennine Bridleway on horseback prior to July 2016 please contact the Trail Officer for further information. Our advice is currently to box-up at Hayfield and drive to horsebox parking areas a bit further north at Carrbrook or Greenfield, which would just mean skipping a short section (roughly 8km or 11km respectively).

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
