Longcliffe Bridge and Hopton Tunnel Open

24th May 2019

Derbyshire County Council have pulled out all the stops and five weeks after a lorry hit a bridge carrying the High Peak trail, they have replaced the bridge & re-opened the trail in time for the bank holiday weekend.

The temporary bridge was lifted in to carry the trail over the B5056 near Brassington after the original bridge was damaged extensively by a HGV.

Now plans are being drawn up to rebuild a permanent bridge on the trail which is a popular route for walking, riding and cycling.

Hopton Tunnel, which has been closed for roof repairs, will open later today (Friday 24 May 2019) for the bank holiday weekend.

The Pennine Bridleway follows The High Peak from Middleton Top, the official start of the Trail, to Dowlow near Buxton.

Middleton Top Visitor Centre is open for cycle hire, drinks, ice creams & snacks
