Hopton Tunnel Repairs - Pennine Bridleway Closure

16th November 2018

Derbyshire County Council have closed the Pennine Bridleway where it goes through the Hopton Tunnel in order to carry out repairs. Timber boarding in the tunnel has become unsafe and needs to be removed to prevent injury to users of the path. Following removal of the timber boarding an ARMCO barrier insert will be installed to prevent any risk of rock falling from the roof of the tunnel. The closure has been requested from 21/11/2018 – 31/03/2019,  However the route will be open whenever it is safe to do so during the works. It is expected to take 1 week for the timber boarding to be removed.  There will then be a break whilst suitable tunnel lining materials are procured before the second phase of the work can begin.  If it is safe to do so the tunnel will be open for use during this break in work.
