My inspiration to go on this 5 day solo hiking adventure from Knetishall Heath and along the Peddars Way to Holme-next-the-Sea, and then onward to Hunstanton to start the Norfolk Coast Path as far as Cromer actually stemmed from a memoir that I read set in the USA (Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail) by Cheryl Strayed. As I live in Norfolk myself, it seemed to be the perfect trail for me do as my own mini-adventure.

Day one began at 09:00 when I left Knetishall Heath and passed through beautiful autumnal woodland and tracks before camping a short distance off the trail near Ashill after completing 22 miles. Day two was a long day that began at 08:00 passing through fields and meadows, and the wonderful rural village of Castle Acre before finishing at a wonderful campsite close to the village of Great Bircham, completing 24 miles that day. On day three I journeyed on to Holme-next-the-Sea and completed the Peddars Way after an early start, before heading to the bustling seaside town of Hunstanton to commence the Norfolk Coast Path. I set up camp at Burnham Deepdale after a total of 26 miles walking that day. Day four comprised of a lovely part of the walk - over marshes, dunes, coastline, woodland and through the beautiful port of Wells-next-the-Sea. My final nights camping was at Blakeney after 20 miles walking that day. My last day was very blustery, but this only made the wonderful coastline seem so much more dramatic. It was quite hard going at times across shingle and over hills, but I made it to my finishing point at Cromer Pier in good time. I walked a total of 109 miles (including campsite diversions) over the five day period.

This experience proved to be a fantastic adventure that taught me so much about myself, and i'd recommend the journey to anybody. It is true - walking really is good for the soul, and Norfolk is unquestionably one of the prettiest places around. Next year I hope to pick up where I left off in Cromer, and journey to Hopton-on-Sea to complete the Norfolk Coast Path.
