Walking Festivals

20th January 2015

Planning your 2015 walking activities during these dark winter evenings, what about trying a Walking Festival, if you have not done so already.

Walking Festivals are a great way to get out and explore different areas of the country and meet like minded people. They take place all over the UK and throughout the year, and the walks are tailored to suit a wide range of walkers, from short town walks to long distance walks. Many festivals also run other events alongside, like introductions to nordic walking, map reading and photography, aswell as evening talks and social events.

Walking Festivals are a great way to walk linear routes like the National Trails, because transport to start points is included. There are many Walking Festivals that take place along the Offa's Dyke Path and by attending various ones, you would not be far off completing the whole Trail.

To find out more there's a great website http://www.walkingfestivalsuk.com/  that lists 165 Walking Festivals in the UK and Ireland and for specific ones associated with the Offa's Dyke Path corridor we try and list them all on the Be Inspired page under events http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/offas-dyke-path/be-inspired

Many of the towns who run walking festivals are also Walkers are Welcome towns, find out more at http://www.walkersarewelcome.org.uk/

And remember it does'nt matter how you complete the Offa's Dyke Path or how long it takes you, once you have walked it all, you can join the Offa's Dyke Path Hall of Fame http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/offas-dyke-path/hall-of-fame
