Lesley and Carl Walter

Entered the Hall of Fame:27th February 2018
Trail Completed:17th September 2017

We walked with 4 other friends who joined us along the way, but for us coming from New York, we planned to walk the entire path and did so in spite of the intermittent rain supplied by the long arms of Hurricane Irma, who was flogging the east coast of the US at the time. Our first day was solid rain, but thereafter it seemed to rain in the mornings only, while the afternoons were fantastic with lots of rainbows - never seen so many. Our English friends joined us in Gladestry at the end of Day 5 and our Swiss friends joined near Clun on Day 9 or thereabouts. We had arranged with a travel agent to stay at hotels or B&Bs along the way and had great experiences with them all. Lots of great pubs provided succor at the end of 15 mile days. Our legs got stronger as the days went by and all six of us noticed that we could draw in our belts an extra couple of notches by the time we got to Prestatyn.

My comment is that Lesley and I felt that 15 days was getting to be a bit long and that we tired of being "poached" - that is, wet inside the rain jackets and outside too. But in retrospect (AND at the time) Offa's Dyke Path was a fantastic experience.
