'Tree of the Year' award for Sycamore Gap
19th December 2016The National Trust owned sycamore tree in Wall-mile 38 on Hadrian's Wall Path in Northumberland National Park has been voted England's Tree of the Year. The popular annual on-line Woodland Trust poll of members of the public saw the tree, which gave the dip in Hadrian's Wall, Sycamore Gap, its name, receive 2,542 votes out of a total of 11,913 cast. The tree featured in the1991 film Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner, as a result of which it is sometimes referred to as Robin Hood's tree.
