Trail's-end tribute to Bowness artist Gilly

26th January 2016

Walkers at the start / finish of the Trail at The Banks promenade in Bowness-on-Solway have a new bench seat from which to enjoy views of the Solway firth.  The bench, manufactured by local farmer James Graham, who is also chairman of the Bowness Community Group, is a tribute from the village to local artist Gilly Walton.  Gilly designed the floor mosaic at The Banks prior to the Trail's opening in 2003 and worked with children from Bowness primary school who helped to install it.  Newspaper cutting with full story from the Cumberland News.

Gilly also organised the village gardening group who helped to keep The Banks looking in good shape for our Trail visitors and in 2012 we made a contribution from walker donations towards the cost of buying new plants.  Dave McGlade
