Mike Hayhurst and Alfie

Entered the Hall of Fame:18th May 2018
Trail Completed:17th May 2018

A beautiful, but tough 9 days walk, camping for the most part with an occasional b&b to make me more sociably acceptable. The trail is very well marked, on the whole, though I did go astray on two occasions. On day 4 around Banc y Groes, I don't think I went far enough left, and ended up in a ravine. I eventually made my way back to the road and rejoined the trail at Afon Biga. Again on day 6 at CefnCochgwyllt. I just followed the farm access road down into Cemmaes Road to rejoin the trail.

There were plenty of highs, but the best had to be the feeling on reaching the trig point at Y Golfa above Welshpool, and realising that after struggling up a total of 23,556 feet (according to Strava) all the uphills were behind you.

I must mention the King's Head in Meifod. It is under new ownership, and they let us camp in the field behind the pub and cooked me a breakfast at a very reasonable cost. Very friendly people.
