Haverigg dunes: Where can I walk?

Coastal Access: Where can I walk?

Turn left down this fence to reach the England Coast Path National Trail, which runs seaward of the field in front of you.

The large field ahead of you hosts some very sensitive and rare wildlife and the habitats they need to survive. You may see farm animals grazing, which keep dominant grasses short so more delicate species can grow.

For these reasons, dogs are only allowed on the waymarked England Coast Path, on a lead.

There is no access for dogs in the wider coastal margin ahead of you.

Did you know?

One of the UK’s rarest amphibians is the natterjack toad. Around 50%
of the UK population lives on the Cumbrian coast, with the Haverigg area being a particular stronghold. They breed in very shallow ponds – and even puddles on the path – so take care where you tread.

Thank you!

What is the England Coast Path?

The England Coast Path National Trail will be a 2,700 mile walking route around the whole coast of England. It’s opening in stages and as of February 2022 you can walk over 80 miles in Cumbria, from Allonby to Green Road, and around Walney Island.
