On 18th November 2016 a new surfaced traffic-free cycle / pedestrian route was opened connecting the edge of petersfield to Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
This new route will significantly cut the travel time between the two and reduces the amount of height gain.
From petersfield railway station follow Lavant Street (south / south-east) or Station Road (heading east) to join National Cycle route 22, also part of the Shipwright's Way. Then follow this south towards QECP. Half way along "The Causeway" out of Petersfield the NCN 22 / Shipwright's Way turns off left. Continue straight ahead south to pick up the new route to QECP that follows the A3 along a traffic-free path. As it follows the A3 through the Butser Hill cutting this eliminates the need to ride up and over the steep scarp slope above Buriton.
This route is faster and easier, but the Hangers Way (for walkers) or the Shipwright's Way (for riders and walkers) is the more scenic.
