The custom route elevation is created when you use the distance calculator (above) to draw a line.

Whether you are on your way East or West we can easily explain where you are and what there is to see from the easy to read story boards and interpretation panels which are completely free for you to access within the Visitor Information Centre.

Just simply follow the Brown Tourist signs to Hadrian’s Wall and Lanercost Priory and call in as you travel up to the Wall which is less than 5 minutes away by car.

Our Visitor Information Centre is new for 2012 and has been designed for us and is privately financed and managed by ourselves.  We wanted it to reflect the heritage of our location which includes not only Hadrian’s Wall but the Priory ruins adjacent to us amongst other things.  It includes story board panels, a specially commissioned hand painted mural of the wall with images inspired by the Lanercost Cartulary drawings and how the wall was depicted on the early Gough map of Britain.

We have plenty of free literature for you to take away as you plan your journey and ideas on all the other areas to explore which a within easy reach including:

•Lake District
•North Pennines
•South West Scotland
•Solway, Carlisle & West Cumbria
•Eden Valley

And why not explore the Wall by bus with the AD122 service stopping at Lanercost daily (April to October).
