The South East Group is a part of Endurance GB - the National body for endurance riding in England and Wales. If you are a member of EGB and live in South East England, you will automatically have been assigned to the South East Group, unless you elected to join another group. If you are not a member of EGB but live in our area and are interested in finding out more about endurance riding, then why not come and join us at some of our social events & pleasure rides and see what fun endurance riding can be.
What area do we cover?
The area covered by the South East Group includes Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey & the Isle of Wight. Many of our rides are on the South Downs offering fantastic going & spectacular views. We are also lucky enough to be able to use many beautiful bridleways and have generous landowners who allow us to cross their land, which means that we can keep the amount of roadwork on our routes to a minimum.
How do I know what events are on?
The South East Group's events calendar includes National and Group Pleasure Rides, training days, social evenings and the Branch Annual Meeting.
Who competes in Endurance?
Whether you're 7 or 70 you'll still be young enough to enjoy endurance. Routes are typically clearly marked and maps (& usually talkrounds) are provided by the organiser to help you navigate the route. NB: Riders under the age of 13 yrs must be escorted by an adult who is also entering the ride.
Endurance is a sport that the whole family can become involved with. Crews can meet riders at designated points along the route to offer drinks & refreshments to both horse & rider.
What type of horse is suitable?
Although the Arab breed of horse is popular amongst endurance riders, there are many breeds of horse competing very successfully ranging from native ponies all the way up to draught breeds.
