Thistledown is an organically managed family farm near Stroud, in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our farm covers 70 acres of pastureland, woodland and elderflower orchard, and borders Woodchester Park. We offer three different areas for camping, two of which are car-free. The fields have plenty of space and every tent can have their own campfire.
The lower pastures have better facilities, whilst the Elderflower Orchard is accessible by car. The Orchard only has events toilets, but you are welcome to walk (4 mins) to use the washing up, composting toilets and showers in the lower pastures.
We don’t have any allotted pitches, but the camping fields are very large and we restrict numbers so you will definitely be able to have your own space and camp as a group if required. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the amount of space you’ll have! Campfires are encouraged and you can have your own if you’d like. Firewood is usually delivered in the late afternoon, but this may not be the case midweek – it’s best to check at the shop if you are unsure.
We set up Thistledown Café in 2016 (formerly Fieldfare Café) and have grown steadily since then. For most of the year we’re open Wednesday – Sunday (see Opening Times for details) and throughout the summer holidays we’re open every day, offering gourmet coffee, fine teas and a wide range of cold drinks as well as a selection of homemade cakes and patisseries. Food from our clay oven and barbecue is served Wednesday – Sunday. We stay open late on Fridays and Saturdays in the summer for wood-fired sourdough pizza nights – for most of our camping season this is both Friday and Saturday night. Booking is essential for all services as we serve a limited number of dishes – 01453 860420. We’re fully licensed (no BYO) and stock local beers, ciders, wines and even local gin! We also serve wines and prosecco from further afield!
