The Thames Tideway Tunnel is a 25km ‘super sewer’ under the Thames to intercept the sewage and clean up the River Thames for the good of the city, its wildlife and everyone who lives, works and walks beside and across the river.

Victoria Embankment Foreshore Westminster is connecting several combined sewer outflows from London's West End with the Thames Tideway Tunnel.  In a typical year, ten combined sewer outflows together discharge 2,138,000m³ of untreated sewage into the tidal Thames. The new Thames Tideway Tunnel will clean up the River Thames by diverting all sewage outflows into the new system.

This work is just 25m south of the memorial to Sir Joseph Bazalgette on the Victoria Embankment. Bazalgette was responsible for the design and construction of London's main drainage and sewer system opened in 1865, as well as the construction of Embankment itself.
