Wolds-Inspired Artist and Former Pupil Join Forces!24th February 2014
A local Wolds farm proved to be a source of inspiration for Yorkshire artist Peter Watson – who then found out the farm in question was owned by a former pupil of his!
John Warters, who owns Humble Bee Farm at Flixton, was taught by Peter Watson at Filey School, and now examples of the artist’s works hang on the walls of three luxury holiday cottages at the livestock and arable farm.
Peter said: “My paintings are inspired by the Yorkshire Wolds and particularly by the effect of farming methods have on the landscape, producing striking shapes, patterns and colours.”
Mr Watson’s portfolio also includes industrial South Yorkshire landscapes, which provide a historical record of industry that has now largely disappeared.
On seeing Peter’s paintings on the walls of the holiday cottages, Mr Warters said: “Peter has truly captured the beauty of Humble Bee Farm, which has been in our family for generations.
“My wife Julia and I were so captivated by his work, we’ve got five of his paintings hanging in our Four Star Gold cottages, right here on our farm. We also commissioned Peter to do an original painting of the farm, featuring part of the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail, which runs along the southern tip of Humble Bee.”
Humble Bee Farm also has eight Wigwams, recently featured in the media, along with a campsite and a holiday apartment, St Kitts, in nearby Filey.
