Start point: The cross in Market Square at Helmsley.
Finish point: Filey Brigg, on the coast, 11km (7miles) south of Scarborough.
Landscape:: Half encircles the largest open moorland in England, the rest follows the Heritage Coast on top of rugged cliffs. 80% of the Trail is within the North York Moors National Park.
Highlights: Helmsley Castle, Rievaulx Abbey near Helmsley, Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby Abbey, Staithes Harbour, Captain Cook's monument, Roseberry Topping viewpoint, red grouse.

Nearest Towns: 40km (25 miles) north of York, 83km (50 miles) South of Newcastle. Scarborough and Whitby are on the Trail.
Access: York is 2 hours from London and 1 hour from Newcastle by train and you can catch a bus direct from York to Helmsley (1hr 10 mins). Scarborough is 30 minutes from York and you can change there for services to Filey by bus or train (10 minutes). Stations also at Whitby and Kildale.
