Bus 77 runs between Brighton and Devil's Dyke Sundays only until Easter 2006 , contact Brighton and Hove buses for details 01273 886200 www.buses.co.uk for details of spring and summer service (not available at time of writing). Heading west it is 4.5 miles or 7km to the River Adur crossing and about 64 miles / 102km to Winchester. Heading east it is 2.5 miles / 4 km to the A23 at Pyecombe, 5.5 miles/ 9 km to Ditchling Beacon. It is 36 miles / 58km to Eastbourne.

Good chalk grassland - butterflies, flowers - in spring and summer and a good range of birds on the scrub and woodland all year. The landscape history is amazing - go down to the valley floor and you can almost see the mammoths on the skyline! There is good wheelchair access around the hilltop (for the views etc) and a fully accessible trail for wheelchairs and bikes back into Brighton. Legend has it that one dark night the Devil was digging a dyke (ditch) to the sea to flood Sussex with seawater. An old woman saw what he was about and put a candle in her window. Seeing the light, and hearing her cock crow, the Devil thought daylight was coming and fled.public toilets
