Facilities and additional information

Bus 79 runs between Ditchling Beacon and Brighton hourly on Sundays only in winter (if you're planning a trip for next year, there are also buses on Saturdays from May to Sept).  Heading west it is 3 miles or 5km to the A23 at Pyecombe, 5.5 miles/9km to Devil's Dyke, and  about 47 miles / 74km to Winchester. Heading east it is 6.5 miles / 10.5 km to the A27 crossing at Housedean Farm.  It is  31 miles / 49 km east to Eastbourne.

Additional information

The chalk grassland and woodland nature reserve includes the remains of an Iron Age hill fort (the part to the south has been ploughed out). It has been used for warning beacon fires for centuries, and was part of the beacon chain that warned Elizabeth I of the approach of the Spanish Armada. It is registered Common Land.  The plateau is fairly flat and so quite easy to access for pushchairs, motorised wheelchairs, etc but it is not specially surfaced.
