A group of Washington residents worked hard to win a grant from Village SOS and the Big Lottery Fund so that a Community Tea Room could be set up in the village hall.
It was felt that such a venture would not only provide a facility for all the residents but would encourage increased numbers into the village itself, who would otherwise just pass through.
The money has been used to refurbish the old kitchen, buy equipment and redecorate the small hall interior. All profits made will be ploughed into existing and new community initiatives.
A number of part time jobs for local people have been created to run the service, alongside a team of volunteers.
The Tea Room will be open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10am to 4pm.
It will serve real coffee, espresso, cappucino, a choice of teas, bacon rolls, snacks and light lunches and a choice of delicious home made cakes. The intention is that prices remain competitive and affordable for all.
