Alfriston White bridge revamp nearing completion

7th August 2014

The complete renovation of the iconic White Bridge that carries the South Downs Way over the River Cuckmere at Alfriston is now complete and the temporary scaffold walkway is due to be dismantled. During the dismantling of the scaffold there will be no access across the river at this point. The SDW will therefore be closed at the River Cuckmere between Tuseday 12th August and Friday 15th August. A diversion will be in place using the existing public footpaths on the river banks and crossing the river at the stone road bridge to the north. This is a 1.2 km diversion.

Further details of the divertion can be found here.

The route should be fully open for Saturday 16th August.

The £45,000 bridge revamp has been funded by the South Downs National Park Authority and East Sussex County Council.
