Steven Westwood, the Pennine Way National Trail Officer is swapping his natural habitat of the Pennine Hills for the streets of London on April 21st. Steve is a volunteer with the Calder Valley Search and Rescue, and will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Mountain Rescue England and Wales. On Saturday 22nd June 2013 Manchester based children’s charity MedEquip4Kids is organising Trek50, a 50 mile circular walk for teams of four people, which starts and finishes at Littleborough RFC near Hollingworth Lake. They expect to have 35 teams participating, walking via Blackstone Edge, Hebden Bridge, Widdop Moor, Holme Chapel, Walsden and returning via Blackstone Edge. To help raise funds for things like the newly established ‘Personnel Recovery Centres’, two members of Ashford (Kent) Branch RBL will be walking the northern part of ‘The Pennine Way’ in late June 2012. Andy Clarke and Tony Hall will start their sponsored walk at Middleton-in-Teesdale on 20 Jun and finish at Kirk Yetholm on 27 Jun 12. This event is also timed to coincide with ‘Armed Forces Week’ and the celebration of the branch’s 90th anniversary supporting serving and retired members of our armed forces and their dependents. They said it couldn't be done, but how wrong! Incredibly Gary Morrison and Steve Thompson have completed the Spine race in a time of 152 hours and 2 minutes. There incredible achievement is testament to their stoic determination and unbelievable desire to finish the course. Their achievement should be applauded and go down in British Ultra Marathon Running history. The never before attempted winter Pennine Way has been completed and the 'Mori-Thom' record of 152 hours and 2 minutes is the benchmark for all others. This is an incredible achievement and a real inspiration to us all. Steve and Gary we salute you!
Highbarns Bridge Closure

The Pennine Way Bridge crossing the Hartley Burn in Nothumberland will be closed for 2 weeks from the 17th October 2011 for a new bridge to be installed. There are several local diversion routes available.
