Diversions, closures and alterations

Tony Gowers

At times there is a need for us to close or re-route certain parts of the Trail to cater for maintenance or safety works, major events, or to reduce or prevent damage to environmentally sensitive areas.  The list below is current and we advise that alternatives be used when planning your walk.

Lenham

A byway section of the North Downs Way near Lenham has been closed to motorbikes and motor vehicles.  Users can be exempted from this order by applying for a permit.  Further details are available in the downloads at the bottom of the page.  Walkers, cyclists and horseriders are unaffected by this closure.

Luddlesdown, Halling and Snodland

A number of BOATs (byways open to all traffic) in Kent, between Luddlesdown, Halling and Snodland are subject to an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order which restricts the use of motorised vehicles to those who have been granted permits by Kent County Council.

Cyclists, Horseriders, Horse-drawn carriages and walkers are unaffected and do not need to apply for permission.
