  • By Car, access the western (Carlisle) end of Hadrian's Wall Path from the M6, junctions 42, 43 and 44. For the eastern (Tyneside) end use the A1 (city centre exit and follow signs for Wallsend) or the A19 then take the signs for Wallsend.
  • By Train, Carlisle is on the London Euston to Glasgow west coast main line and Newcastle upon Tyne is served by the London Kings Cross to Edinburgh east coast main line. Regular daily services link Carlisle and Newcastle via the Tyne Valley line.  Tyne Valley Line: Newcastle, Corbridge, Hexham, Bardon Mill, Haltwhistle, Brampton, Carlisle.  National Rail Enquiries tel: 08457 484950
  • By Coach, National Express Coaches serve both Newcastle (St James' Boulevard - five minutes' walk from Central Station) and Carlisle (bus station in Lonsdale Street).  For telephone bookings: 08705 808080.
  • By Air, Newcastle airport is only 30 minutes from Central station using the Tyneside Metro (top tip, have some change ready for the ticket machine).
  • By Ferry, regular services from Holland, Norway and Sweden dock in North Shields. Transfer to Wallsend or Newcastle via service buses to North Shields then take the Metro (have change ready for both!).
  • By Metro, the Tyneside Metro connects Newcastle with Wallsend (and North Shields for continental ferries) with other services to the airport, coast and Sunderland. (Top tip, always have change ready for the ticket machines).
