So the story goes ...
In the 17th century, the building used to be an inn run by a landlady who would steal from her customers and sometimes she murdered them. There was a tunnel under the building which connected to her house and this is where she used to store the bodies !
The landlady was called Meg Merilees and her story was written in a book by sir Walter Scott. The poem is painted on the wall inside the House of Meg.
