Facilities and additional information
Described in recent years as “one of the most impressive exhibition spaces in Britian”, the Hatton Gallery has been at the heart of cultural life in the North East since the early twentieth century.
2007 marks the development of the partnership with Tyne & Wear Museums and involvement in the multi-million pound project to develop the Great North Museum, of which the Hatton will be an important part. From the Great North Museum project onwards, Tyne & Wear Museums will become the managing body of the University of Newcastle’s four cultural attractions. The Great North Museum will eventually combine the designated natural history collections at the Hancock Museum with some of the country's finest Greek and Etruscan objects housed in the Shefton Museum, the significant prehistoric, Roman and Anglo-Saxon collections of the Museum of Antiquities as well as magnificent fine and decorative arts from the Hatton.
