5 walks between stations in Hadrian's Wall Country (Wylam to Riding Mill)
These Tyne Valley trails will let you explore the countryside near Hadrian's Wall. As one of the best surviving frontiers of the roman Empire and its most important monument in Britain, Hadrian's Wall was inscribed a World Heritage Site in 1987.
These walks lead you through woodlands, along riverside paths and across open fell in an area with a wealth of history, folklore and wildlife, south of Hadrian's Wall.
Railway links
The Tyne Valley line offers an ideal opportunity to explore the area. Most stations enjoy an hourly service or better. These walks are all linear, using the train for the other half of your journey. Please check times and fares before leaving.

- 1: Prudhoe to Wylam 3miles/4.5km[Size: 2.15Mb] {#DownloadURL} This walk is completely within the Tyne Riverside Country Park and there are no stiles. Most of the route is level and well surfaced but there are two short banks in the Hagg Bank area.

There is a long climb from Tyne Riverside Country Park at the start. The walk crosses the railway line - please take care. Beware of quarry traffic crossing the walk near Merry Shield
- 4:Prudhoe to Stocksfield 4miles/6km[Size: 1.62Mb] {#DownloadURL} Via Ovington. This walk follows paths, tracks and minor roads. There is a steep climb out of Whittle Dene close to the start. There is also a long descent from Ovington to the River Tyne.
- 5: Stocksfield to Riding Mill 3.25miles/5km[Size: 488.92Kb] {#DownloadURL} This walk is mainly on paths with very little on roads. There are no steep inclines but the surface is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs and there are many stiles. This walk crosses the busy A68 - please take care when crossing.
