Ordnance Survey maps - Explorer 1:25000

Please be aware that the route indicated for Glyndŵr’s Way on pre 2005 OS maps is the old route, which can differ significantly from the new route of the National Trail.  The 1:25000 ‘Explorer’ series of maps published from May 2005 containing ‘access to open countryside’ information show the new route of the Glyndŵr’s Way National Trail. These maps are listed below:

201 Knighton & Presteigne
 Sections 1-2.
214 Llanidloes & Newtown
 Sections 2-8.
215 Newtown & Machynlleth
 Sections 8-9. The last part of section 9 leading into Machynlleth is not on the map.
OL23 Cadair Idris & Llyn Tegid
 Section 9. Covers only the last part of section 9 leading into Machynlleth.
239 Lake Vyrnwy & Llanfyllin
 Sections 12-16. The last part of section 16 into Welshpool is not on the map.
216 Welshpool & Montgomery
 Section 16. Covers only the last part of section 16 leading into Welshpool.


 

Guide books
There are only two guide books to Glyndwr’s Way that are accurate:

National Trail Guides ‘Glyndwr’s Way’ by David Perrott.
£12.99. Aurum Press. ISBN number 1- 85410- 968 – 5.

This was the official guide book to Glyndwr’s Way and there is a bulletin to accompany it which gives details of changes that have been made to the route since it opened (please contact the Glyndwr’s Way officer for this). However this guide is now out of print and it will be some time until a new official guide is available. You may be able to obtain a copy by asking on the forums of outdoor websites - try 'The Long Distance Walkers Association', 'Outdoor Magic', 'Live for the Outdoors' and 'Walking Forum.co.uk'. Also try your local library – they may be able to order a copy, and Ebay.
