Treadlightly! and the Ramblers volunteer on Glyndwr's Way

4th July 2014

Another great day out working on Glyndwr’s Way with volunteers from two organisations that promote responsible access to the countryside.

Treadlightly! aim to protect motorised recreational access opportunities through education, partnership working and conservation initiatives (www.treadlightly-uk.org). And the Ramblers help maintain footpaths, campaign for more access and encourage more people to take up walking (www.ramblers.org.uk).

Volunteers from both groups came out this week to help build ‘pipewalks’ on a very boggy part of the Trail near Llangadfan. The pipewalks are a version of the more familiar wood boardwalks that you may have seen on the Trail. The light weight materials used in their construction means that we can build them on sites that are remote or sensitive and need to have all materials and tools manually carried in.

Perfect weather and drier than normal ground conditions contributed to the success of the day as did the good humour and willingness to get very muddy from all concerned.
