Due to a recent landslip a section of the Cotswold Way near North Nibley has been diverted.
Steps on the path leading up the steep slope to the north of the Tyndale Monument at Nibley Knoll (between Dursley and Wotton-under-Edge) have become unsafe, so a temporary diversion is in place until the extent of the problem has been assessed and remedial works can be carried out.
The alternative route has been signed on the ground. The attached map shows the closed path, presently part of the Cotswold Way, between points 1 and 5. The alternative route follows an existing bridleway and footpath between points 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Cotswold Way waymark discs have been erected on posts at each of those points.
Approaching from the north, pass the end of the closed footpath at 1, and continue up the hill on the bridleway track. At 2 follow the footpath signs to the right and continue along the footpath, leaving the woods at 4 and walking across the field towards the Monument.
Approaching from the south, walk towards the Monument then follow the footpath sign to the right at 5. At 4 the path leaves the field and goes down the hill through the woods. Continue to follow the footpath until you reach the bridleway at 2, then turn left and follow the bridleway to the bottom of the hill.
At this stage it is not possible to say how long the diversion will be in place.
